Have you considered dropping your salary.png

I've seen a lot of conversations about IT recruiters urging people to drop dollars to secure an opportunity.

While I think being flexible on your contracting rate for the short-term has merit, I don't advise "Permies" to take a big pay cut to secure work during a downturn.

There are a few exceptions, depending on your motivation, like if this role cuts your travel time significantly (OR) it's a total career change. Fair enough.

If you do take a major pay cut to secure work it's likely to hurt, both your ego and your wallet.

It's likely that as soon as the market bounces back you will leave this role for better money, which ultimately damages your reputation and pisses off the company that has just invested in getting you on board, with little ROI.

My advice is to try to secure a contracting role in the meantime.

There will be more IT contracting opportunities than perm over the next 6 - 12 months, maybe now is your time to try?

Don't drop your pants.

Reputation is everything and the market is smaller than you think.
