#recruiter

“Hi there, thanks so much for your interest in the position of X advertised, are you able to please tell me a little about your skills and experience and what you are looking for in your next position?”

#candidate

“You’ve got my resume don’t you”.

When I call a candidate and ask this question, I’m trying to find out so much more about you than what your resume lists.

I want to hear your ability to build rapport, how easily you explain your projects, what your communication skills are like, why you do what you do, your personality, your tone of voice, the list goes on.

These questions will depend on the job I’m recruiting for.

It may be more relevant to uncover your soft skills if you are a Business Analyst as opposed to a Software Developer sure, however, I still want to understand what your personality might be like and what environment will suit you the best.

Be forthcoming with information and understand that the question might be asking more than it’s asking.
