So why don’t women apply for jobs unless they’re 100% qualified?

This topic has always fascinated me, and I see it daily and firsthand in IT where men dominate the industry.

#diversity and #inclusion are so important in Technology.

I want a world where technology and products are equally created, designed, and developed by humans for humans, not by men for humans. It doesn’t make sense.

So how do we get more women to apply to these #jobs?

Interestingly a Hewlett Packard internal report found that both women and men gave the same most common reason for not applying.

“I didn’t think they would hire me since I didn’t meet the qualifications, and I didn’t want to waste my time and energy.”

i.e. they need the qualifications to be hired in the first place, regardless of if they felt they could perform the role or not.

So, it’s not about confidence as many assume, it’s that they need better information about how hiring processes really work.

#recruiters can influence this. We have a part to play.
